YNBA REP BASKETBALL INFORMATION

What is YNBA Rep Basketball?
The YNBA Rep Program is geared toward male and female athletes who are committed and serious about playing competitive basketball. Our program is set up to help dedicated basketball players maximize their skills by practicing sound fundamentals and then applying those fundamentals against other competitive basketball teams from across the Province.

In addition to playing exhibition games and OBL league games, our Rep teams compete in weekend tournaments across the province. These tournaments include a minimum of three games and they often begin on a Friday evening.

The season for each age group is completed with all qualifying teams playing in their respective Provincial Championship Tournament.

What is the Player's Commitment?
The player must have a love for the game, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn and improve their game. The player commits to attend all practices, games and tournaments with a positive attitude as well as keeping up with their schoolwork.

What is the Parents' Commitment?
The parents must commit to getting the player to practices, games and tournaments by providing transportation (car pooling with other parents is a great help). The parent must also provide positive understanding and support to the player and his teammates. Assistance in score keeping and timing of home games may also be requested. Once the team is selected the coach will ask for a parent volunteer to work with a committee of parents from the other Rep teams to organize our fundraising efforts.

How many Players for each Team?
We usually choose 12 players for the team, although a coach may choose as few as 10 or as many as 15. In order to preserve continuity, and to develop a strong club system, coaches are encouraged to pick younger age level players if they have good skills and potential.

How does REP basketball differ from House League?
The Rep game is much faster and much more physically demanding than a House League game. In House League all players play equal time regardless of ability. Under a Rep program, not all players will play equal time in games. If you have any concern about this, please discuss it with the coach prior to committing to playing on the team. Even if you are not a starter on a Rep team, you will benefit greatly from the many hours of practice, the concentrated coaching and the high level of competition. Typically, players from Rep teams form the nucleus of every school team in the province. Virtually all high school and university basketball players have played Rep Basketball.

What is the cost of the Rep program?
The fees are used to pay for rental of gyms, tournament entry fees, exhibition games, OBA fees, Insurance costs, OBL League fees, new equipment, basketballs etc.
Our Rep Program fees are well within the Ontario average. The fees for each year is usually set following the club meeting in early September.
