LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT
York North Basketball Association (YNBA) would like to acknowledge that the
town of Newmarket and it’s beautiful lands are located on the territory of
the Haudenosaunee, Mississaugas of the Credit Indigenous People and the
Chippewas of Georgina Island Indigenous People. We will commit to continue
to learn more, do more and be allies for change.
We recognize that the territory, we work, live on and populate, belong to
the Indigenous people and we are guests on these lands. We will acknowledge
this by always starting out meetings and our season by giving our thanks to
these people.
By recognizing the Indigenous People it is the first step to reconciliation
of the systemic racism that has taken place over generations and is the
first step to renewed friendship.
