George Tinnes President

George Tinnes has been happily involved with the YNBA since the very first days of the Newmarket Basketball Club. Over the years, George has volunteered in every aspect of the YNBA's organization, having been a House League and Rep coach, as well as a House League Division convener, several times over. Back in the day, George played varsity basketball at Conestoga College, and after graduating with a Diploma in Business, he has become a successful self employed mortgage broker with Centum Mortgage Professionals Inc.

 
Dave Bannister Vice President & Director of Rep
 
Dave Bannister has been dedicated for the past 20+ years to the quality of basketball in the northern part of York Region. He began as a coach with the York Region Avengers in 1997, before being asked to take over the running of the REP only club in 1998. After the YNBA was formed by merging the operations of the Newmarket Basketball Club and the East Gwillimbury Huskies in 2009, he has continued on the executive, focusing primarily with the REP teams. During the last several years, Dave has focused on helping the volunteer REP coaches of the YNBA club achieve a higher level of coaching by providing expertise in the gyms so they can improve without having to give up more of their precious time going to coaching clinics.
 
 
Aldo Fazzalari Secretary


Aldo has been involved in basketball from his earliest days as a child on the playground in Welland, Ontario.  Playing at various levels of basketball throughout his life, Aldo first got involved with coaching like many volunteers do – to teach the game to his two children. Initially volunteering as a house-league coach in YNBA (previously Newmarket Basketball Club), Aldo progressed to coach rep basketball for 8 years.  In the process Aldo received his Level two NCCP coaching certification.  Aldo joined the board of YNBA in Oct. 2012 and looks forward to serving the current and future YNBA participants learn more about a great sport and more importantly, help foster a life-long enjoyment of sport and all the wonderful life lessons sport can teach us.

 
Marc Horton Treasurer

Marc Horton has accepted the position of our new treasurer.  Marc has been an active player and coach with YNBA since 2003. He graduated from York University with a degree in Political Science and also holds a Diploma in Sports and Event Marketing.  Since graduating, he has accepted a position with Sunlife Financial as a financial advisor and is a partner at HGH Financial. Marc is very excited to give back to the program that gave him so much growing up, and his happy to be a part of the YNBA board of directors.

 
Jason Malone Director of House League

 

Jason Malone is NCCP Level 1 Certified in Basketball. He is the previous Director of the Aurora Basketball League (15 years) with over 20 years of Basketball coaching experience in house league, summer camps, and school teams, along with our Learn To Play and Girl Force instructional programs. Jason is also the Recreation Programmer for the Newmarket Seniors’ Meeting Place, which is a recreational community center for adults 55+. As you can tell, no matter the age, he is committed to supporting life long community based recreational opportunities.

 
Jason Scott Director at Large


For 25 years, Jason Scott has been committed to the growth and development of youth in York Region. His history with the YNBA dates back to 1999, when he founded Newmarket's first House League basketball program, the Newmarket Basketball Club. Since it's inception, the NBC (now the YNBA) has become renowned for offering high quality basketball programs that are dedicated to helping youth achieve their dreams on and off the court.  Jason was on the founding team of YNBA in 2009 where he became the Executive Director for 7 years. Outside of the YNBA, Jason has proudly taught at Sacred Heart Catholic High School for the past 25 years.

 
Jeff Smith Director of Camps & Clinics


Jeff has been involved with athletics from an early age, mostly basketball and track and field. At Brock University he continued his passion for athletics by running on the cross country team. With over 16 years of teaching experience, he has convened basketball tournaments and leagues at various skill and age levels throughout the York Region. Jeff is a very enthusiastic and experienced educator with a passion for athletics. He believes strong leadership is crucial in the development of successful and high achieving programs and athletes. At the forefront of a successful athletic program is creating an environment where there are high expectations for all. 

 
Other Staff
Gad Perlmutter Technical Director


Gad is an award winning coach with over 20 years of experience complemented by a successful career as a high school and college player. Currently Gad is YNBA’s JUEL team Head Coach, and Technical coach for all our Rep teams. With demonstrated ability to teach young people the fundamentals of the game of basketball showing them the value of hard work and perseverance. Gad has earned numerous athletic accolades as a player at George Brown College (MVP 1994) and Ontario Basketball’s Rep Coach of the Year (2011). He has a proven ability to direct, motivate and inspire individual and team excellence. In 2007 Gad co-founded True Basketball Fundamentals which is a basketball training program which provides a focus on accessibility, training for all levels of athletes, elite team training, personal instruction and seasonal camps. As York North Basketball Association’s ’99 Girls Division 1 Head Coach, his team has consistently won Division One Gold Medals at the Ontario Provincial Championships for four (4) years (2014-2017). Recently his U19 Girls won the Provincial Championship for the 2021/22 season. Gad also volunteered as Head Coach for Newmarket High School, winning four (4) consecutive York Region Championship titles heading to AAA OFFSA (2014-2017). As an Assistant Coach with the Vaughan Panther Boys team, he led their team to 6 consecutive Division One Gold Medals (2008-2012) at the Ontario Provincial Championship. Gad is a proud Ambassador for the OBA Elite training programs and its member athletes. He has led key Ontario Basketball development programs such as CP, TIDP, RTC & MDP

 
Patrick Au Assistant Technical Director


Patrick brings an extensive resume and a vast amount of experience over his 20 years of coaching to his role as Assistant Technical Director for the YNBA.  He spent 8 years with the Humber Hawks of the O.C.A.A.  where he was the Head Coach for two seasons and the Lead Assistant for six.  His time at Humber is highlighted with seven provincial medals, including two championships (2010 and 2016), three silvers and two bronze. He also captured a national championship in 2015 and a national silver medal in 2016. Prior to being at Humber, Patrick spent ten years coaching at Sacred Heart Catholic High School where he is a teacher.  Patrick helped build a successful program at Sacred Heart, winning a YRAA championship with the senior boys team in 2007 and competing in four OFSAA championships in a row.
